Project Copernicus

Exploring the decentralized society

Manifest

We live in exciting though confusing times. Technology is impacting our society in an accelerating way while our social fabric doesn’t seem to be suited to keep up with it.

We are left in a void. A void where we feel we need to leave behind our old belief systems while new credible ones have yet to emerge.

Project Copernicus fills the void by exploring a decentralized society, founded on blockchains.

By connecting artists, scientists and entrepreneurs Project Copernicus wants to stimulate the search for a social contract for the digital age by collectively exploring:

  • Self-sovereignty in the digital realm (Blockchains)
  • The functioning of borderless commons (DAO’s, Biomimicry)
  • Interaction between Humans and Machines (AI, ML)
  • Blending of the Physical and the Virtual (AR, VR, MR, Virtual Twins)

Project Copernicus does this by mapping decentralized experiments in the Copernicus Museum, reflecting on their functioning in so called Copernicus Salons and by collectively sketching a new collective story for the digital age in the Copernicus Library.

Doing so, Project Copernicus understands and respects the powers of new technologies and applies them in a curious and grounded way. The resulting collective story for the digital age is deeply rooted in the long lasting trends of individualization, globalization and digitalization. It embodies the traits of a new social contract while at the same time leaving the flaws of the old behind. Making it a story that is sustainable because it works for everyone.
